BANKSY on CHISWELL STREET

Banksy on Chiswell Street London Banksy Rat with Robbo tag

Whilst scurrying along eerily empty City streets early on Saturday morning heading towards BritMums Live, or #BML16 as it has been rechristened, I was rewarded with the sighting of this Banksy on Chiswell Street.

When Banksy rat stencil first appeared he was in black and white and the placard read “London Doesn’t Work”.  Then along came another street artist Robbo, who changed the placard to read “I love London, Robbo”.  The amendment was all part of a long running feud between the two artists, which saw the pair making changes to each others work.  All this came to an end in 2011 when Robbo had an accident that led to his death.  All the Robbo tags have been left, just as they are, as a tribute to the artist.

Not all of Banksy’s work is to be found on walls waiting to be viewed for free.  If you would like to read about my visit to Sotheby’s to see Banksy’s not on walls but in frames and for sale click here.
