Love photographs?  Then Photo London 2017 is the place for you.  For four days Somerset House is to become a temple to photography.  One huge marquee, two wings and four floorswill be home to 89 galleries, 5 exhibitions and 1 mind blowing Virtual Reality work of art.

When I first glimpsed this picture across the crowed marquee I thought that it was a monochrome mountainous landscape and was intrigued to know more.  As I got closer I realised that it is the tail of a giant Iguana.  As with most of the images on display, this Sebastiao Salgado photo is for sale.  I could happily spend hours looking it, the reflections, the oily swirls, the textures and imagining what the rest of the Iguana looks like.  I wonder if Mr CW feels the same?

Wandering along the corridors of Somerset House, each door is open inviting you to wander in to see what each gallery has to offer.  People have come from all over the world to exhibit at Photo London 2017, this is Galerie Johannes Faber from Vienna.

Most of pictures will be packed up and taken away after the show finishes but one work of art that will remain is Thresholds by Mat Collishaw.   Look at Thresholds with the naked eye and all you will see is a white room.  Put that backpack and headset on and you are in the nineteenth century viewing one of the world’s first photography exhibitions.  You need to be at least 14 to go in but I reckon this has to be the coolest thing to do with teens this half term in London.  You can read more about my Threasholds experience here.

No large scale event seems to be complete nowadays without a pop-up restaurant and Photo London 2017 is no exception.  TABLE is an offshoot Skye Gyngell’s Spring, it will offer a £20 three course set menu that aims to have as little food waste as possible.

Interesting fact:  Somerset House was the world’s first purpose build office block.
