Luxury Eco Glamping in Sussex: Review Starcroft Farm Cabins

Mr CW and I love a jaunt to Sussex. Not more than an hour an half away from home and yet a world away. Just before Christmas we headed down for a weekend of luxury eco glamping in Sussex at Starcroft Farm Cabins near Battle.

Luxury Eco Glamping in Sussex

First things first. Mr CW is always wary of glamping. He wants the emphasis to be on the glam rather than the camping. Luxury eco glamping is his style. No need to worry at Starcroft Farm, right from the bespoke stained glass window in the front door you are firmly in glam territory. Artisanal beer, chocolate and kombucha await you.

Review Starcroft Farm Cabins

There are three cabins at Starcroft Farm. Matilda, Catherine and Lucy all named for local literary ladies. We stayed in Lucy, named after the woman who used to live at the farm in the 1920s. In the cabin there is a bathroom, living/dining/kitchen area and a bedroom outside there is a veranda with a table and chairs for alfresco dining. All made with sustainable and recycled materials. You park a short walk from the cabins across fields.

Lucy is decorated with a 1920s vibe. I especially liked the well stocked bookshelves with books by local authors and about the local area. In fact I could happily spend a week just hanging around the cabin and reading the books. Above the bed is a huge stargazing window, the area is dark and so the stars are amazing. My camera, not so amazing, so here is a daytime view.

Where are Starcroft Farm Cabins

Battle Abbey

You will find Starcroft Farm Cabins just outside Battle in East Sussex. Starcroft Farm used to be part of Battle Abbey estate and so William the Conqueror’s army probably passed through the field on their way to clash with King Harold’s troops.

I would be sorely tempted to come to Starcroft Farm Cabins and not leave for the duration of my stay. There are books to read, games to play and the location is idyllic. In the summer you are in the midst of a wildflower meadow and in the winter you have views across to woodlands. If however, you do decide to venture forth. You can walk to Battle across the fields as part of the 1066 Country Walk, it will take you just under an hour. Driving to Battle takes a few minutes, the town is very pretty and the Abbey excellent.

De la Warr Pavilion Bexhill on Sea

Head in the opposite direction and the seaside beckons. Both Hastings and Bexhill are about 20 minutes away. Hastings has a wide variety of cute and interesting shops, the excellent Hastings Contemporary Gallery and some the best Fish and Chips anywhere. Bexhill on Sea is smaller and is home the extraordinary modernist gem Bexhill Pavilion.

I confess that when I suggested to Mr CW that we spend a night in an eco glamping cabin in December he looked at me as if I was mad. When we arrived the rain was lashing down and it was extremely cold out. Mr CW was even less convinced. Once we were inside the warm and cosy cabin he instantly changed his mind.
