Cross country skiing in Venabu, Norway is how we have spent every February half term for the past eight years. This year the first few days were marked by cloud and snow. There had been lots of snow but very little wind meaning that the trees were laden with snow.
Lots of fresh snow also made for good gliding along the wood lined paths.
When we opened our curtains on Tuesday morning, what a difference! We could see the mountains and just how far we needed to ski before we got to climb up them and whoosh down. The big mountain you can see, we skied up round the back of it before gliding back for lunch.
Here is Oscar ready to get going on the newly groomed tracks.
As we climbed up my eye was caught by these mounds of snow in the middle of a running stream. Venabu is a very beautiful place but that Tuesday was the most stunning that I have seen it. Bright blue sky, snow clinging onto trees and even onto rocks in the middle running water.
When we first visited Venabu the boys were young and we weren’t sure whether or not they would enjoy it, we needn’t have worried! Over the years we have skied by moonlight, seen the signposts change from wood to metal and had years where the temperature has dipped down below minus thirteen. We book our holiday at the Venabu Fjellhotel with Headwater Holidays.
Do you have anywhere that you return to year after year?
We paid full price for our holiday but there are affiliate links in the post.
